Road to Open MetaDescription
Panel discussion on the topic
How has open access changed the way we use metadata to evaluate research?
The impact of Open Access on the research ecosystem goes far beyond just how we pay for and read books and journal articles. It affects how we share information on many levels. The digital environments required for effective Open Access book publishing differ in some essential features from the data requirements for publishing traditional paper books. Open Access has introduced expectations for metrics around usage and impact of books and chapters that closely resemble the metrics applied to research outputs published in journals in the sciences and used for the evaluation of researchers and institutes. This panel discussion will explore the ways in which new metadata requirements for Open Access books are touching and changing other parts of the academic book publishing landscape.
