Library tour for new students
Welcome to the library of the HTWK Leipzig!
The picture on the screen shows an exterior view of the library building.
On the screen is a photograph of a female student entering the library.
Before you enter, you can leave your bag in one of the lockers.
You need a 1 or 2 EUR coin for this.
A picture of the lockers is shown. There are lockers in different sizes.
Ground floor
When you have walked through the second set of doors, you are standing in the foyer of our library.
As you can see, we have
- a service desk
- relaxing sofas
- research and computer workstations
- a central printer, self-service stations
- a bathroom for disabled persons / baby-care room
- a desk with newly arrived books
Pictures of all of these things are shown.
... and also
- Orientation literature (books which help you with your studies, literature on the history and the culture of the region, literature for learning German)
- Newspaper
- Information material
This is where exhibitions take place as well as special activities and public reading events during the Leipzig Book Fair.
Photographs of different events are shown, including exhibitions and a reading event.
Now we are in the large staircase.
On the right is the charging station. If you want to copy or print something, you need to charge your student ID.
There is also a validation station located here.
In the large staircase – and also on every floor – there is an information board which helps you find your way around the library.
An information board is shown with the information of the subjects found on each floor. The subjects are colour-coded.

Now we are on the first floor.
The floor with the yellow reading room.
On the screen is a picture of study places in the reading room, each with an outlet and a lamp.
There is an info desk with research computers, office supplies and a phone - just like on all other floors. Feel free to call the service desk, if you need help.
There is also a scanner on this floor.
On the screen is a photograph of the info desk on which are 3 computers and a scanner at the end.
This is followed by a picture of a bookshelf where theses can be seen and then another picture with dictionaries on a bookshelf.
The theses of HTWK graduates as well as literature for language learning are situated on this floor.
A picture of books on academic learning and writing appears ... and also a large collection of books on academic learning and writing.
Then the picture shows a bubble with the following terms: academic papers, structuring theses, rhetoric, M.A. thesis, citation, giving presentations, presenting, B.A. thesis.
Then a different picture is shown: a shelf with books that are marked by a yellow bar in addition to the normal labels.
The textbook collection is also located on this floor. This collection consists of multiple copies of recommended reading for all university courses.
You can recognise these textbooks by the yellow bar.
A picture of a male student in a single-study room is shown.
... and there are also seven self-study rooms on this floor.

- There is also a training room with a number of computers which you are welcome to use when there are no courses or other events taking place.
On the way to the group-study rooms we have just walked past the toilets which are in just this location on all four upper floors.
A picture of the door to the toilets is shown. An arrow points to the toilets which are on the left-hand side on the way to the group-study rooms. Across is the door to the small staircase.
Welcome to the second floor!
Where the purple reading room is situated.
